Yesterday was day 1 of my 100,000 pushup challenge and I managed to crank out 100 in 5 sets of 20. Now that doesn't put a huge chunk in my goal but considering I'd been sick for the previous two weeks and hadn't done a single pushup in that time I figured I'd start low. Afterall, it's a marathon and not a sprint.

100,000 pushups, really??
Tired of making the same lame New Year's resolution like "get in shape, eat healthy, etc..." I've decided to get specific for 2012 (and beyond). I have a number of goals but as you can see by the title of this blog that performing 100,000 pushups in 2012 is the one I'm most obessed with. Before I get into the details, here are my other fitness related goals for 2012:
Perform 100 pushups in a day
Perform 200....etc up to 1,000 pushups in a single day
Perform 100 consecutive pushups
Run a half marathon
Run a full marathon
See? That's not too much is it ? :) The marathon is the one I'm least confident in achieving due to injuries that always pop up when I increase my mileage. Anyway, the point of this blog is to hold myself accountable and I intend to update it daily throught the year. So how does one go about performing 100,000 pushups in a year? Good question and the best way to explain it is that I'd need to do 274 a day, every day of the year. I won't do them everyday of the year though. I'll probably do them five days per week which means about 384 per day. Now even though I've been doing some preperation to get ready for this adventure there's no way I can do 400 pushups in a day starting January 1st. Most likely I'll start at about 200 per day in sets of 20 and gradually increase both the number of sets and reps per set. By the end of the year I'd love to be doing 10 sets of 100! Now that's a worthwhile goal.
OK, more details to follow but for now I've got to go and drop for 20!
